The Leader of the Future Award honors values-based leaders of character who have “the vision to see and the courage to shape the future.” The annual Leader of the Future Award Dinner attracts leaders from all sectors —business, government and the social sector — to honor a leader whose work, career and example inspire citizens across the sectors, around the world. The inaugural Leader of the Future Award was presented to Alan Mulally, President and CEO of the Ford Motor Company in 2006. Andrea Jung, Chairman and Chief Executive Office of Avon Products, Inc. was the 2007 honoree, A.G. Lafley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Procter and Gamble Company was honored in 2008, followed in 2009 by the Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, U.S. Army (Ret.), former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and currently the Secretary for Veterans Affairs. The fifth Leader of the Future Award Dinner will be held at the Mutual of America Life Insurance Company’s headquarters, at 320 Park Avenue in New York City. According to Manfred Altstadt, Chief Operating Officer of Mutual of America Life Insurance Company and the Institute’s Chairman, “Marshall is a leader who believes and demonstrates that the people of the organization are the organization's greatest asset.” Frances Hesselbein, Leader to Leader President and CEO describes Goldsmith as “a leader who healsand unifies, builds consensus, appreciates differences, finds common language, and common ground.” Dr.Goldsmith has been recognized as one of the most influential business thinkers in the world by Business Week, India’s Economic Times, United Kingdom’s Economist, Fast Company, Forbes, The London Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Goldsmith is one of the American Management Association’s 50 great thinkers and leaders who have influenced the field of management over the past 80 years and is one of only two educators who have won the Institute of Management Studies Lifetime Achievement Award. Goldsmith has worked with over 120 major CEOs and their management teams, including Chevron-Texaco, Motorola, Thompson and Pitney Bowes; and he has volunteered for the U.S. Army and Navy, The Girl Scouts of the USA and the American Red Cross, where he was a National Volunteer of theYear. Goldsmith has a Ph.D. from UCLA and teaches executive education at Dartmouth’s Tuck School. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources and Alliant International University honored Goldsmith by naming the school of business and organizational studies the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management.
